Full House Rewire and Meter Upgrade on a Century-Old Duplex

Old homes carry a lot of history - but the wiring behind the walls usually tells a different story. This duplex had decades of electrical work layered on top of itself. The kind of setup where you're not really sure what's connected to what, and tracing a circuit feels like archaeology.

Here's what we were working with: an exposed meter base on the exterior that was well past its useful life, service entrance components that didn't meet current code, and interior wiring that had no business powering a modern household. The conduit run and meter enclosure on the outside of the building said everything you needed to know before we even opened a wall.

A full house rewire means we're pulling everything back to zero and starting fresh. New circuits, new wiring throughout, and a new panel to tie it all together. The Eaton panel we installed is cleanly labeled by circuit - bedroom, bath, kitchen, oven, fridge, microwave, living room. No guessing. No mystery breakers. Every circuit is accounted for and rated correctly for what it's serving.

The meter upgrade was just as important as the interior work. Getting the service entrance up to current utility and code standards isn't just about passing inspection - it's about making sure the whole system is safe from the point power enters the building all the way to every outlet and switch inside. That matters especially in a duplex where two households are depending on the same service.
