Arcing at your meter is not something to sit on. It's one of those situations where the risk escalates fast - we're talking heat damage, failed connections, and a real fire hazard if it goes unaddressed. This customer was dealing with exactly that, and they made the right call getting it looked at right away.
What we were working with was an old meter main that had seen better days. Arcing had already been occurring, which tells us the connections and equipment had degraded to the point where they couldn't safely handle the load anymore. That's a red flag you can't ignore.
We swapped out the old unit for a new 200 amp meter main - properly sized, correctly installed, and built to handle the demands of the home without issue. The conduit run up the exterior wall was secured cleanly from the weatherhead down to the new unit, and everything was brought up to current standards.
The whole job got handled efficiently. The customer went from a genuinely unsafe situation to having reliable, properly rated service equipment - and the peace of mind that comes with knowing their home's electrical entry point is no longer a liability.
Arcing, burning smells, discoloration around your meter, or a meter base that just looks old and beat up - those are all signs worth taking seriously. Service equipment problems don't fix themselves, and waiting usually just makes the job bigger and more expensive.
